From the Anvil Cottage Latch with Rings 33147
This is a square plate latch which dates from around 1730 to 1830. Many variations have appeared during this time. Some quite refined whilst others were quite crude.
Square plate latch 6 inches x 4 inches with forged edges and spring loaded latch bar. There is a 8mm spindle to connects the ring to the rose.

This latch set is forged steel not cast so offers greater strength
This now replaces the Dartington cottage latch ref – 03-301-05
These are handed – A left handed one fits to the right of the door with hinges on the left (you would use you left hand to open it) The picture shows a left handed one.
