Cast from malleable iron, a protective undercoat (phosphate) treatment is applied prior to the final coating of black paint. A traditional dip paint process is used thereafter, to aid the dull black appearance.

Periodic wiping with a lightly oiled cloth will further help to preserve the look of the product.
